YOUTH SUMMER ACTIVITIES
►PLAYGROUND PROGRAM
The summer playground program was conducted at (4) city parks throughout the
city. The program was held for (10) weeks from June through the first week in
August. These programs provided recreational activities for children (5) days a
week for the entire length of the program. The sites had a variety of
recreational activities scheduled from basketball, softball, volleyball,
swimming, tennis and board games. This program allows children to participate in
recreational activities in their own neighborhood.
►SUMMER FOOD PROGRAM
The City of Beaumont Parks and Recreation Department Sponsors a Summer Food
Service Program each summer in conjunction with the Texas State Department of
Agriculture. The program is managed through the Food and Nutrition Division of
that department, and offers a free lunch to kids eighteen (18) years of age and
under, who during the summer months while school is out might not otherwise get
a balanced meal. The meals are free and there is no registration, kids just need
to show up at a site near them. All meals must be eaten on site and second meals
are encouraged.
If a church organization or day-care facility is
offering vacation Bible School or other services, you may bring your kids to any
site and participate. In the event you choose to bring a Bible School class,
please contact Fred Lemell, Jr. - the Development Coordinator
with the Parks and Recreation Department at (409) 838-1902 the
day prior to your anticipated participation so that we can adjust meal orders
for that day. The program runs for approximately forty nine days during the
months of June, July and August, with exception of the Fourth of July which is a
City of Beaumont Holiday.
